“A few years ago, getting out of a chair went like this: 1) try to stand up like a normal human, 2) get halfway up, feel a sharp pain, and nearly fall, 3) less than gracefully catch my balance, and 4) limp toward my destination. These days, I can not only stand from sitting but also play volleyball multiple times per week! When I injured my hip, my doctor told me that physical therapy wouldn’t help, and surgery was the only treatment option if I ever wanted to play volleyball again. I was reluctant to have surgery and tried physical therapy just in case. I worked with a few different therapists and after minimal improvement, decided to see if someone with a different approach could ease the pain. That’s what led me to Lenae… She taught me how to use my muscles correctly, and now my body is functioning! No surgery. “I actually only started training for the PV Half only 5 weeks ago. I started out at a 12:30 pace, but then I focused on the techniques you taught me over these last 5 weeks and my pace improved to 10:30. I noticed that I was running with my stomach out and taking these long lazy strides. I corrected by keeping my stomach in to level out my hips, changing to a shorter stride & faster cadence, and using also my glutes instead of just my calves. With just 5 weeks of training, I improved from 12:30 to 10:30 pace. I just ran the half today and I ran a 10:18 pace! I attribute my improvement to more technique and less to fitness.”

As a former college athlete, when I started to have trouble with my knee I was very discouraged. The pain affected almost all of the outdoor/athletic activities I enjoyed and was desperate to get back to. I already spent 5 months with another physical therapist, who determined by the end of our meetings that perhaps I needed to look into getting a brace since he was out of ideas. Discouraged, I sought out a second opinion.
Enter Lenae! Upon our first meeting she performed a very thorough examination; no muscle movement, ache or pain was ignored! She also took note of my goals making sure she clearly understood where I wanted to be at the end of this journey. Then, we got to work!!
Each subsequent meeting we discussed my current status, successes, and any regression or struggles with the plan; always listening to the mental challenges of dealing with rehabilitating as much as the physical. She re-evaluated strength and devised the game plan for the coming weeks and would put me through the paces to ensure I understood the progression. You have to put in the work though!!!! As the weeks went on, I continually saw strength and mobility return. If there was a slight set-back, she took the time to alter the plan and make course corrections. There was never an end to her bag of tricks!! She always went the extra mile to ensure I was moving towards my goals, encouraging me the whole way. Not to mention we had a ton of fun!!!
Working with Lenae has been a huge education and re-calibration to my previous understanding of mechanics and strength training! My previous understanding always focused heavily on the quads and the calves. No one told me about the importance of one’s glutes! I had many bad habits and old knowledge that needed some updating. Lenae, always current on industry research, patiently explained concepts and how the exercises worked to put strength back where it was needed. She has set me up for success for the long-run!”
